Valentine's Day weekend pretty much consisted of making this heart cookie, chocolate dipped strawberries, a bottle of wine and Eric and I exchanging cards.
Our only babysitter just got married on NYE and wasn't available to watch the boys as she of course wanted to go out with her new husband. That's a bummer, but at the same time it's such a silly holiday. Overpriced meals, set menus etc. We don't need V day to show our love! That's done every day around this place! :)
On Saturday the boys needed haircuts. This was Chase's 1st cut since Nana cut it several months back. I figured he'd be a disaster and would have to be held down but he did great! No crying or squirming! He even had his first lollipop!
Then we headed to the park and of course we had no swimsuits but the boys wanted to get wet.
It was so nice that we decided to bring out the kid wash. I swear this thing brings out the kids from their houses. It's like they know....
I have no idea where our time goes these days. It seems like life is getting busier and busier with Ethan going to bed so late now, working, and working out.
Mr. Chase will be starting school in June. Our nanny wants the summer off and wants to go to school full time in the fall. We are so bummed but couldn't get Chase into the school that we wanted to move Ethan to, so they are both going to be at Ethan's current school and are on the wait list for the new school. I could get a spot for Ethan at the new one but not Chase so once a spot for both opens up we'll hopefully move them both.
But one of our main time killers these days is our kitchen renovation. We're just waiting to hear back when we can get step 1 started but it should be soon. Here's what we're going to do...
-Quartz countertops and add a 1' overhang for bar seating (Silestone Cemento), it's a dark grey
-Get new doors and drawers fabricated in shaker style (there is a small chance we'll keep what we have just to save $ but we'll most likely get new ones)
-Have our existing cabinet bases (upper and lower) spray painted white (along with the new doors/drawers). It will have a shellac finish for easy cleaning
-Add a taller molding to the top
-Install a Carrera Marble herringbone backsplash
-New knobs and pulls
-New sink and faucet
I can't believe how long this has taken to not only decide what finishes we liked but also getting quotes. Practically each aspect has a different person. We could get one company to do it all but that would be way more. So we're trying to be as economical as possible and choose based on price and talent.
Simultaneously we may be getting hardwood floor in our living room and family room. The reason for this is the transition pieces from hardwood to carpet (that we got done right before we moved in) is a cheap MDF and is not holding up. So we have chips everywhere and painters tape holding it down. Our installer said if he put new stuff in it would do it again so we're going to see how much he'll charge to hardwood those 2 areas.
Also, our backyard. We're having someone come next Saturday to change the layout of our pavers. Our fence line is diagonal so we're trying to maximize the small space that we do have. We also are going to cement the side yard (guy is coming in the morning to give a quote for that). We also need to buy patio furniture and an oversized umbrella (we were going to do a Pergola but the more I think about it, the more I think it will make it look smaller back there).
So we basically are spending every penny on our house these days!
Good thing I'm having a good sales year! I'm 110% to plan and have 3 1/2 months left until our fiscal year resets on June 1. Too bad much of that income goes right to childcare (and the kitchen).
